My brother's wife and daughter came to visit. She, Emily, has some German heritage so I figured she would enjoy a visit to Helen.
The few times we've driven an hour or so north, it has been our tradition to stop at a certain run-down glorified fruit stand/mini market. They sell produce, but they also sell all kinds of things in jars (jam, honey, fermented veggies, etc.), lots of really random candy, sometimes donuts (this time apple cider donuts), yard trinkets, and boiled peanuts. Every time we've gone there, we've bought boiled peanuts and we also each choose our own treat/snack. We shared our boiled peanuts with our guests so they could have a taste of The South.
*Note to self: take more pictures of this po-dunk place!!
Here is a very poor picture of the cute town. It's similar to Jackson Hole, but smaller and has a German flare.

Once in Helen, the kids spent the majority of the time at the park. Thank goodness for the park!

I walked around with Emily and Emma part of the time. I saw a guy blowing glass- pretty cool. I also bought some fun wooden spinning tops 3/$2.

Well, whadaya know...

Slide progression:

To wrap up our visit we got some ice cream. This place had at least a few dozen flavors to choose from.

Yum!

Seth got the exciting-looking kid-classic superman ice cream.
Anika got the other kid-classic rainbow sherbet, which was always a favorite of mine as a kid.

When we got home, we scrambled to get a fire going and dinner ready. We let the grill rack roast our hot dogs over the fire, but then we braved the heat to roast marshmallows for s'mores. (Emma's jacket is misleading 😉.)

After s'mores the kids got ready for bed and then we went back outside to watch fireflies.

We were also kind enough to share some Metro-Atlanta traffic and fried okra for a more rounded Georgia experience.
What am I missing, Than?
